Association Jeanne Jugan
The Association Jeanne Jugan (A.J.J.) offers to Catholic men and women the opportunity of sharing in the spirituality of the Little Sisters of the Poor, of participating in their mission of hospitality, and of helping to spread the charism of Saint Jeanne Jugan in various social and professional milieus.
After a year of spiritual preparation, new members are inducted into the Association Jeanne Jugan on May 1st, the feast of St. Joseph, patron of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
A.J.J. activities at Jeanne Jugan Center include:
- Volunteering in various areas of the Home
- Serving as lectors and Eucharistic ministers
- Visiting Residents who are hospitalized, room-bound or in need of special attention
- Helping with the meal service
- Assuring a comforting presence with the dying Residents
- Pitching in to help with fundraising activities
- Animating the monthly A.J.J. Bingo, holidays and other special events

Lend a Helping Hand and Volunteer
Volunteers provide our Residents with the extra attention that makes all the difference in their lives.
Volunteers also provide invaluable support in many areas of our Home, both in direct contact with the elderly and through indirect services in various departments.
Although they render much service, through their contact with the elderly, volunteers receive much more than they give.
Our volunteers help with activities, dish ice cream, plant flowers, sing songs, fold laundry, peel vegetables, listen to life stories, wrap presents, drive Residents to appointments, and just all-around make life better for our Residents.
After a few years of needing to limit visitors to the Home, we are happy to welcome back our volunteers, and have needs in several areas.
We especially need drivers with a CDL license and helpers to make beds for a couple of hours one day a week.
But even if those jobs aren’t your cup of tea, contact Mitch, our volunteer coordinator, and he will find you something that brings you as much joy as we feel having you here. Mitch can be reached at volkansascity@littlesistersofthepoor.org or call 816-203-8046.
Hospitality Club
The Hospitality Club is a great opportunity for girls 12-18 years old to share their contagious joy and youthfulness with the elderly. The group of young adults meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at Jeanne Jugan Center from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Each Saturday meeting includes:
- Mass with the Residents and Little Sisters
- Serving the Residents their noon meal
- Sharing a meal and fellowship with the Little Sisters and each other
- Activities with the Residents in the afternoon
Hospitality Club members also help out with holidays and special events.
