Embroidery Memories

By February 27, 2025No Comments

Our activities department has a nice program where they invite Residents to display an item that they have made and share a story about it.

The latest item was a beautiful quilt that was displayed in our mall area. It was made by Resident Irene several years ago (she is now 101 years old, by the way), and features all 50 of the United States and their flowers.

Irene shared that while her late husband was in dialysis she kept active as much as she could. Irene volunteered for the dialysis center, and after finishing her volunteer duties, she sat and embroidered until her husband finished for the day. That gave her around 4 to 5 hours at times to embroider.

Irene made every stitch of embroidery by hand on this beautiful quilt. It took around 6 to 8 months to finish all 50 squares.

She is thankful that one of her friends was able to quilt every piece on this final and beautiful work of love.

Thank you, Irene, for sharing these memories.
