We may be a long way from Kentucky, but that didn’t stop us from celebrating the fun of the Kentucky Derby with our own races right here at the Jeanne Jugan Center.
On Friday, everyone donned their festive hats and headed to the auditorium. Activities staff handed out quarters to everyone to use to bet on their favorite horses.
Soon the racers lined up (staff, Little Sisters, and Residents carrying blow-up horses) and waited for the starting bell. Then the dice were rolled, and one by one each jockey moved forward according to the number of their roll. It was a little slower than the race in Kentucky, but every bit as exciting as spectators cheered on their favorites.
Afterwards everyone headed to the mall area for freshly made popcorn and lemonade. What a great day!\
