Those of us who went to Catholic school may remember the excitement of May and the May Crowning – a ceremony to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Every May, the school children would line up in the back of the church, each holding a flower, and one by one, process in and lay it at the foot of her statue. Then one lucky girl would carefully place the beautiful crown of flowers on Mary’s head.
We had a day of reliving those childhood memories, while also making new ones with our own May Crowning, held here on May 1. What a great way to start the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother! Everyone joined in with a hymn while apartment Resident Alice placed the crown on Mary’s statue. That was followed by a beautiful group recitation of the rosary. The afternoon was rounded out with sweet treats and fellowship. What a wonderful day!
