Recently one of our Residents, Johnnie, decided she wanted to become Catholic. She had been attending Mass at the Home and got a lot out of it, but wanted to take it a step further and share in the Eucharist by taking communion.
She shared her wishes with Sr. Rose, the sister in charge of her floor, and Sister arranged for her to learn more about the Catholic faith. At long last, the day came when Johnnie could officially become Catholic. Since she had already been baptized, all that was left was for her to take her first communion and to be confirmed. She did this here in our chapel, accompanied by the Little Sisters, her sponsor Madge, her daughter, and all of her fellow Residents.
It was a joyful sight to see our chaplain, Fr. Leete, give Johnnie her first communion. She was so happy! Since then she can be seen each morning at daily Mass, all smiles as she receives the sacrament again.
